Make sure that the bedding is neither too firm nor too soft . In the past , sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS was attributed to very soft baby bedding.

This occurred when the baby's mattress was too soft. The baby's nose and mouth get covered so that the infant inhales the air it exhales. This can be hazardous for your baby since she would breath carbon dioxide rather than oxygen. The harmful effects could lead to drowsiness, coma or even death.

The three major types of infant baby bedding are made to fit a bassinet, a crib or a cradle.  What differentiates one from the other?

First, the bassinet. A bassinet is an oblong-shaped basket that serves as a bed for a very young child .  Sometimes, round bassinets are also used .

A crib is a bed that is made with high side bars for a baby or young child's safety. Cribs are usually used from infancy to two years.Using a crib saves money, since you don't have to buy a new bed every year.

While a cradle is a small low bed that an infant uses that has rockers on its stand.  In all these, the material used to make the equipment should alert and signal to the mom how much safety precautions are needed.

Bedding for bassinets is usually lacey and full of trimmings.  The infant baby bedding must fit the bassinet so that the baby's space is enough for him or her to be able to roll from side to side.

The crib is usually square, thus, mattresses can be fitted to the size of the crib. The baby bedding usually is a set of coverlet and small pillows. Bumper pillows can also be placed inside. However, the pillows should not be more than two or three to prevent the baby from standing on them and falling out of the crib.

Cradles come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some mothers prefer cradles so that when the baby is cranky, he or she can be rocked to be calmed down. The baby bedding for a cradle should follow the shape of it.  You don't need to add too many things like toys to the cradle. You use the cradle to rock the baby to sleep.

Do you need all three types of baby beds for your infant? The answer is no. One bed will do and this would depend on the parent's preference.  The most preferred would be the crib since it can be used for a long time.

How do you know what makes the best bedding for your baby's bed? Make sure that you choose infant baby bedding that fits the bed and prevents an accident to the baby. The preferred bedding material to use is cotton. Cotton soaks up water and is cool to the baby's skin. There are many different designs, from frogs to Pooh Bear and other cartoon characters that stimulate the infant's color and pattern recognition.
