Travel With a Toilet Training Toddler? Yes!
Don't think you have to stop toilet training when the family goes on vacation. Preparation is vital when continuing toilet training on the go.
You will want to pack your toddler's standalone potty chair. In an emergency your child can use his or her potty seat in the car. Be sure to bring inserts or small plastic bags for lining the potty seat. It will make clean up a lot easier.
Be sure to pack paper or wipes for your little one, too. Try to use the same ones your youngster uses at home. There's enough upset with a long car trip. You want to keep as much as possible the same as home.
Let your toddler get used to wearing disposable training pants before you go on the trip, and then be sure to bring some along. Tender little feelings will be protected as well as your car and your little one's clothes.
Try to limit fluids and high water content foods on the road. You want to keep your toddler hydrated. However, there's not always a place to stop for a potty break.
Try stopping often at roadside rest areas. They generally have bathrooms your youngster can use. Take the standalone potty seat into the restroom with you. Don't be surprised if your youngster wants to use his or her own potty seat. The surroundings are probably intimidating.
If you have any potty training regression on the trip, don't let it bother you. It's normal in a period of high stress. Your child may have more accidents than they did at home.
When you arrive at your destination, try to encourage your little one to get back on their normal potty routine as quickly as possible. Any regression will probably disappear when you get home and back into your normal routines.
